The Labour Party (LP) has announced that it will hold its presidential primaries for the 2027 general elections on May 23, 2026.

This decision was confirmed after a meeting of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), which was observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

According to a statement released after the meeting, the party will submit its membership register to INEC on April 15, 2026. It also revealed that primaries for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly positions will take place on May 15, 2026.

The NEC expressed satisfaction with the actions of the party’s national leadership, led by Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha, especially regarding preparations for upcoming party activities. These include Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses scheduled for March 26, 28, and 31, 2026, respectively, as well as the National Convention set for April 11, 2026.

The council also reviewed recent developments within the party, reaffirming its role as the highest decision-making body after the National Convention.
