Veteran Nollywood actress Esther Oluwaranti Moradeke Adebayo, popularly known as Mama Ajirotutu, has shared an emotional story about her past financial struggles and how her life began to change in recent years.
The Yoruba film star revealed that in 2024, she faced serious hardship and could barely afford basic needs. According to her, she struggled to pay a house rent of just ₦2,500 in Idi-Iroko, Ogun State, and the landlord later increased it to ₦6,000, knowing she would not be able to afford it.
She explained that her situation took a positive turn when fellow actor Aremu Afolayan stepped in to help. He reportedly rented an apartment for her in Ikorodu, paid for three years, and reached out to friends abroad who also supported her financially. He further provided her with household items, including a refrigerator.
The actress described this moment as a turning point in her life, as she finally experienced some stability after years of struggle.
She also shared a surprising development in her career in 2026, revealing that she received ₦150,000 for a movie role—her highest pay ever—thanks to actor Azeez Ijaduade.
According to her, this was a major milestone, as she had previously earned between ₦20,000 and ₦30,000 per role, and sometimes even less.
In addition, she disclosed that filmmaker Kolawole Ajeyemi, husband of Toyin Abraham, also gave her a role with a better payment in 2026, further boosting her morale and career.
Her story has sparked reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy and calling for better support for veteran actors in Nollywood.
Mama Ajirotutu is widely known for her strong performances in Yoruba films, where she often plays elderly or strict motherly roles. Despite her real-life age, she has built a reputation for convincingly portraying older characters, earning respect for her talent and dedication in the industry.
