The Nigerian military confirms the deaths of terrorists and soldiers in a Borno attack.

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that both terrorists and military personnel were killed following a coordinated attack on a military base in Benisheikh, Borno State.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, said the attack occurred around 12:30 a.m. on April 9, 2026. He explained that insurgents attempted to break into the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters.

According to him, troops under Operation HADIN KAI, led by the brigade commander, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, responded strongly to the attack. He said the soldiers showed courage and professionalism, using superior firepower to fight back.

The military said the troops successfully repelled the attackers after a fierce gun battle, forcing the insurgents to retreat and abandon their mission.

However, the Defence Headquarters did not confirm or deny reports claiming that Brigadier General Braimah was among those killed during the incident.

The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in Borno State, as Nigerian forces continue efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
