A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that Peter Obi avoids participating in competitive primary elections.
Okonkwo made the claim during an interview on ARISE News, where he discussed Obi’s political decisions and party movements.
According to him, Obi’s actions are often influenced by a reluctance to face open contests within political parties. He further claimed that Obi’s exit from the ADC was not due to ideology or internal crises, but because he preferred to avoid primary elections.
Okonkwo alleged that Obi has consistently relied on political negotiations and arrangements rather than contesting in primaries. He also referenced Obi’s emergence as governor under the All Progressives Grand Alliance, claiming that the process did not follow a straightforward primary election path.
He added that, in his view, Obi has not fully participated in a competitive primary and may continue to avoid such contests throughout his political career.
The comments have since generated reactions, adding to ongoing political debates ahead of future elections in Nigeria.
