Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made Premier League history after breaking the record for the most assists in a single season.
The Portuguese midfielder achieved the milestone after providing an assist for Patrick Dorgu during Manchester United’s final league game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion F.C..
The assist became Fernandes’ 21st in the Premier League this season, making him the player with the highest number of assists in a single campaign.
He has now surpassed the previous record of 20 assists jointly held by Thierry Henry, who achieved it for Arsenal F.C. in the 2002/03 season, and Kevin De Bruyne, who matched the feat for Manchester City F.C. in 2019/20.
Fernandes had equalled the record during Manchester United’s 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest F.C. last weekend after setting up Bryan Mbeumo for the team’s third goal.
The record-breaking achievement comes shortly after Fernandes was named Premier League Player of the Season and also received the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year award.
