Gov. Seyi Makinde Declares Intention to Contest the 2027 Presidential Election

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

Makinde made the announcement on Thursday during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, where supporters and party members gathered amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the next general elections.

According to the governor, he will contest for the presidency under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

While addressing the crowd, Makinde publicly declared his ambition, saying:

“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Before the declaration, the governor reportedly led the Peoples Democratic Party faction loyal to Taminu Turaki in signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the Allied Peoples Movement as part of a political alliance ahead of the 2027 elections.

The agreement was signed by Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, on behalf of both parties.

Under the arrangement, candidates from the PDP faction seeking positions such as governor, senator, member of the House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly are expected to contest under the APM platform instead of the PDP during the 2027 elections.

The development is believed to be part of wider political restructuring and alliance-building ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive presidential election in Nigeria.
