“How a Producer Downgraded Me and Told Me to Seek Her Permission Before Working With Others” – Mercy Aigbe

Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has opened up about a difficult experience she once had with a powerful female movie producer in the industry.

Speaking during a recent event, the actress revealed that the unnamed producer allegedly looked down on her and attempted to place strict conditions on her career before agreeing to work with her.

According to Mercy Aigbe, the producer questioned her identity during a phone conversation and acted as though she did not know who she was. The actress said the producer even compared her to fellow Nollywood star Mercy Johnson.

Recalling the incident, Mercy said the woman harshly asked her to properly introduce herself or risk having the call ended immediately.

The actress explained that she had contacted the producer after being informed by the production manager about a possible movie role, but there had been no follow-up communication.

However, things reportedly became more uncomfortable when the producer asked where she was at the time. Mercy said she informed the woman that she was in Ibadan filming another movie project.

According to her, the producer then questioned why she was working on another set without getting permission first.

Sharing the producer’s words, Mercy Aigbe said:

“The woman was like, ‘Who is Mercy? I don’t have time. Better introduce yourself properly, or else I will cut the phone.’ She said the only Mercy she knows is Mercy Johnson and asked why I was calling her.

“I told her that her production manager had called me about a job, but there was no follow-up. She asked me where I was, and I told her I was on set in Ibadan filming another movie, and she asked which permission I took to be filming another movie.”

The actress’ revelation has since sparked reactions online, with many fans discussing the challenges actors face in the entertainment industry and the issue of power and control within Nollywood.
