Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has said he is ready to sacrifice himself if it would guarantee the safe release of kidnapped schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.
The governor made the emotional statement while reacting to the recent abduction incident, expressing deep concern over the situation and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to securing the safe return of the victims.
According to him, if his personal sacrifice would bring the children and teachers back home safely, he would be willing to do so.
“If you ask me, I can sacrifice myself for those kidnapped school children and teachers to be released.”
The comment has since sparked widespread reactions across social media, with Nigerians divided over his statement and the government’s handling of the ongoing insecurity in the state.
Some users criticized the governor, saying his words were not matched with enough action, while others questioned the effectiveness of the security response in Oyo State. A few commenters also urged him to focus more on practical rescue efforts rather than public statements.
Others, however, argued that his comment reflected empathy and concern for the victims, even as they continued to demand urgent action to secure the release of the abducted schoolchildren and teachers.
The debate continues online as residents and Nigerians at large call for stronger measures to address rising cases of kidnappings in the region.
“If you ask me, I can sacrifice myself for those kidn@pped school children and teachers to be released.”
