The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has addressed the growing insecurity and rising cases of kidnapping across Nigeria, urging the government to take stronger action against terrorists and their sponsors.
His remarks came after RCCG dismissed claims that he had remained silent on national issues. The church maintained that Adeboye has consistently spoken on matters such as insecurity, corruption, governance, elections, and economic hardship.
Speaking in a message shared on his social media platforms, Adeboye explained that his role is to advise leaders, not to command them.
According to him:
“You can only advise the commander in chief. You can’t command him. Because if you command the commander in chief, then you become the commander of the commander in chief. That doesn’t make sense. But I’ve tried. And God is my witness.”
The respected cleric said he believes the government should act urgently to tackle insecurity and suggested that security chiefs be given a strict deadline to deliver results.
“Move fast. Get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign.”
Adeboye also recalled an incident involving a former president who gave a similar directive to security chiefs. He said the order was not fully carried out and that he later met with the late president after the deadline passed.
He stated:
“When three months passed and the work wasn’t done, why didn’t you proceed with your threat? I won’t tell you the details, but one thing came out of that meeting which leads me to my next advice.”
The cleric further stressed that any renewed effort against insecurity should target not only terrorists but also those allegedly financing and supporting them.
“When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, we should make it clear to them that they are not only to eliminate the terrorists, they should eliminate their sponsors — no matter how influential they may be.”
Addressing his congregation and national leaders, he concluded with a direct appeal:
“I’m talking to you as my children. If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast.”
Social Media Reactions
Adeboye’s comments sparked mixed reactions online, with supporters and critics sharing different views.
One user, @ethelify, defended the cleric, writing:
“Those of us who are your children know you’ve been speaking up. Don’t mind those online nitwits on social media.”
Another user, @surest_ziggy, urged him to take further action, commenting:
“Lead another protest sir.”
Similarly, @oluwafemco_rst praised Adeboye for speaking up, saying:
“Thank you daddy, now you are talking and please keep talking. Don’t let these Nigerian politicians stain your white garment sir. The abuse and hate towards RCCG is too much.”
However, some critics questioned the practicality of the 90-day deadline.
@donti689 wrote:
“This man is really smart. Ninety days? We have less than 200 days left in the year. We should just calm down until almost the next election. Smart move.”
Others compared his current stance to his actions during previous administrations.
@deksyn commented:
“But you led a protest during the Jonathan regime, why can’t you do the same now when it is even worse?”
Likewise, @jaybeea9___ wrote:
“You took to the streets in 2014 during Jonathan’s tenure as President. God knows all and will judge everyone when the time comes.”
The discussion has continued to generate debate online, with many Nigerians expressing concern over the country’s security challenges and calling for urgent action to address terrorism, kidnappings, and violent attacks.
