Serena Williams Set for Surprise Return to Professional Tennis

Tennis legend Serena Williams is set to make a remarkable return to professional tennis after nearly four years away from competition.

The 44-year-old has been confirmed as a wildcard entry for the women’s doubles event at the upcoming HSBC Championships at Queen's Club.

Williams has not played a professional match since her defeat to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open. At the time, she described her departure from tennis as an “evolution away” from the sport rather than an official retirement.

Despite dismissing comeback rumours as recently as December, the 23-time Grand Slam champion is now preparing to return to the court. She is expected to partner rising Canadian star Victoria Mboko in the doubles competition.

Speaking about her return, Williams said:

“Queen’s Club feels like the perfect place to begin this next chapter.”

She also expressed her love for grass-court tennis and her excitement about competing again.

“Grass has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and I’m excited to be back competing on one of the sport’s most iconic stages.”

The announcement has generated excitement across the tennis world, with fans eager to see one of the sport’s greatest players back in action on the court.
