Nigerian movie producer Stanley Ontop has reacted to the emotional appeal made by Stella Maris, the widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, over her family's current financial difficulties.
Stella, while speaking in an interview with influencer King Mitchy, revealed that she and her children are going through a difficult time. According to her, they now fetch water from a well because she has been unable to pay their house rent. She also disclosed that their electricity has been disconnected for the past two months, forcing them to rely on other people to charge their phones.
Reacting to the interview, Stanley Ontop questioned why Stella was asking Nigerians for financial assistance barely two years after her husband's death. According to him, he could not understand what the money was needed for, claiming that Mr Ibu left ₦66 million in his bank account.
The movie producer further alleged that during the late actor's burial, Stella claimed that Mr Ibu had no money in his account, yet Nigerians reportedly donated over ₦30 million to support the family. He questioned what happened to the donated funds.
Stanley also claimed that Stella sold more than eight of Mr Ibu's properties located in Asaba and Enugu State. He questioned where the proceeds from those property sales had gone and asked for an explanation regarding the family's current financial situation.
His comments have since sparked mixed reactions online. While some social media users agreed that there should be accountability regarding the funds and properties, others argued that Stanley's claims have not been publicly verified and urged people not to rush to judgment without hearing Stella Maris' side of the story.
