Nollywood actor Jigan Babaoja has raised concerns over what he described as the alarming misuse of herbal and traditional medicines in Nigeria, warning that the trend could put people’s lives at risk.
The actor voiced his concerns in a video shared on social media while reacting to the ongoing health challenges faced by veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, and the numerous offers of traditional treatment that have followed.
According to Jigan, some people are increasingly turning traditional medicine into a means of making money, regardless of the possible consequences for those seeking treatment.
He expressed concern that desperate individuals could be exploited by people claiming to have spiritual or herbal solutions to serious health conditions.
“Nigerians are turning herbal traditional medicine into a way of making money and pushing people to lose their lives. Something needs to be done.”
Jigan therefore called for measures to address the situation and prevent the misuse of traditional remedies, particularly when dealing with serious illnesses.
Jigan Reflects on His Disability and Entertainment Career
The actor has also recently spoken about his personal journey and experiences living with a disability.
In a separate social media post, Jigan described himself as the originator of entertainment boxing in Nigeria, claiming that he played a role in promoting the concept but was unable to fully benefit financially from it because of his disability.
He also boldly stated that, had he had both legs, he would have been able to defeat entertainers such as Portable and Carter Efe in a boxing contest.
Reflecting on his childhood, Jigan revealed that he once believed a nurse who administered an incorrect injection to him had done so intentionally. However, as he grew older, he said he began to view his life differently.
According to the actor, he eventually realised that having both legs might have changed the course of his life and possibly prevented him from achieving some of the things he believes God has accomplished through him.
Jigan said he remains determined to use his platform to encourage people living with disabilities and help them avoid feeling inferior or unnecessarily singled out because of their physical conditions.
His latest comments combine concerns about the misuse of traditional medicine with a personal reflection on resilience, faith and his determination to inspire others living with disabilities.
