Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has responded to the criticism surrounding a one-minute video of her sharing a conversation with her colleague, Jide Awobona.
The video, which showed Mo Bimpe leaning her shoulder on Jide Awobona while they chatted, attracted attention on social media, with some viewers questioning the nature of their interaction.
Reacting to the backlash, Mo Bimpe expressed surprise that an ordinary conversation between two friends had become a subject of public scrutiny. According to the actress, people have different perceptions of what a healthy marriage should look like, and she does not believe that every interaction between married people and members of the opposite sex should be viewed with suspicion.
Mo Bimpe explained that her marriage is founded on trust, friendship, respect and confidence, rather than fear, insecurity or constant monitoring.
She further suggested that the reaction to the video says more about the kind of relationships some people are accustomed to than it does about her own marriage.
The actress also stressed that not every marriage is toxic, noting that healthy marriages still exist, even if some people may find it difficult to relate to them.
In a message shared on her social media page, she concluded by reassuring her followers that her husband is a secure man, apparently dismissing concerns that he would be threatened or insecure by her interaction with Jide Awobona.
Mo Bimpe’s response has since generated further conversations online, with many social media users debating the boundaries of friendship, trust and public scrutiny in marriage.
