Tobi Amusan established a new African record and Nigeria's quickest time in the competition's history with a staggering 12.40-second run in the initial performance.
Amusan's performance is two hundredths of a second quicker than Glory Alozie's 12.44-second time from 23 years ago in Seville, Spain, when she finished second in the competition.
She was the top qualifier for the semifinals on the last day of the competition before winning the final. She was also the only female runner from Nigeria in the 100-meter hurdles event to get to the competition's penultimate round.
