President Tinubu Declares: Nigeria Ends Fuel Subsidy, No Longer Playing Father Christmas to Neighboring Countries

President Bola Tinubu has defended the decision to remove fuel subsidy, asserting that Nigeria cannot continue supporting "smugglers" and playing the role of Father Christmas to neighboring countries. During an interactive session with the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) at the Aso Villa, President Tinubu emphasized the need to prioritize the country's interests.


He highlighted the detrimental effects of the subsidy on Nigeria's economy, including the inability to pay salaries and hindered potential for self-sufficiency. Various speakers at the meeting expressed their support for the subsidy removal, while the President called on traditional leaders to encourage Nigerians to trust in the eventual reduction of fuel prices.


President Tinubu also addressed concerns about infrastructure development, affirming his commitment to remove any obstacles hindering the progress of the Nigerian people. He emphasized the importance of protecting resources and boundaries to generate the necessary funds for capital projects.
