Ayodele Mabel Ayodeji, a 70-year-old Nigerian from Ondo State, has shared her remarkable journey of perseverance and determination in obtaining a master's degree.
Her educational path took a significant turn in 1967 when she left her hometown in search of educational opportunities that her parents couldn't afford to support. Her academic journey hit a roadblock after completing "Modern 3," leaving her feeling demoralized as her friends continued their studies.
To support herself, Ayodele took on the role of a salesgirl and managed a canteen filled with energetic boys, a challenging task. Despite the hardships and adversity she faced, she remained steadfast in her pursuit of education.
A turning point in her life occurred when one of her professors recognized her intellectual potential, inspiring her to continue her academic journey. She recalled an incident where her teacher commended her performance and expressed a wish for her to become a professor within a decade.
These words of encouragement served as a driving force for Ayodele's unwavering determination to achieve her educational goals, despite financial constraints and numerous obstacles.
