Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has criticized Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 election, calling him "unfit" to lead Nigeria. In a recent interview, Soyinka accused Obi of encouraging his supporters, known as "Obidients," to attack him and others with differing views online during the election campaign.
Soyinka expressed his disgust at the insults and misinformation spread by Obi's followers, describing it as an orchestrated effort. He was particularly concerned about the impact on youth, stating, "It is depressing to see those who wanted to be political leaders encouraging that kind of action."
He warned that leaders who incite such behavior might face backlash in the future. Soyinka questioned the competence of those who want to lead a diverse society but promote division and hostility.
Soyinka concluded by saying he hopes Obi does not run in the next election, as his encouragement of these actions proves his unfitness to lead the country.
