Nollywood actress Laide Bakare has criticized the Nigerian police after an officer drove away her car with her minor daughter, Simi, still inside. The incident occurred on the Ikorodu Expressway while they were on their way to a party.
Simi shared on Instagram that they were stopped by the police for no reason, and an officer drove off with her still in the car. Laide Bakare joined in, expressing her outrage and describing her daughter's fear during the incident. She questioned how any sane person could drive away with a minor in the car.
Laide described the encounter as a terrible experience, highlighting the
harsh treatment Nigerians face on the Ikorodu Expressway. She emphasized the urgent need to address many issues in the country.
“Yesterday, it was terrible experiencing the brutal way Nigerians are treated on the Ikorodu expressway. No agency should ever drive off with a 14-year-old girl. My daughter was confused and terrified. Many issues in this country need urgent attention,” she said.
In another post, Laide revealed that the police officials targeted big cars and vulnerable people to exploit and rob. She disclosed that the officers demanded her ATM card to withdraw N70,000.
“They targeted big cars and vulnerable people to exploit and rob. This is my lane, following the flow of traffic in the heavy rain. These people are evil. More to come. She was terrified because they needed our ATM card to take out 70,000 Naira. The guy entered my car and zoomed off with this little girl. It still feels like a movie,” she added.
