Ghanaian Chef Millennium Chef Smith Arrested for Forging Guinness World Record certificate

Ghanaian chef Ebenezer Smith, popularly known as Millennium Chef Smith, has been arrested for forging a Guinness World Record certificate for marathon cooking.

On Tuesday, Smith presented a certificate at a press conference, claiming to be the new world record holder for an 820-hour 25-minute cook-a-thon, which he said started on February 1 and ended on March 6, 2024. The event was held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

During the briefing, Smith said, “Today is the day that I will forever remember. I am incredibly humbled and honored to stand before you today as the Guinness World Record holder.”

However, when the BBC reached out to Guinness World Records for confirmation, PR Executive Alina Polianskaya stated, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate. The current and true record holder is: The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119 hours, 57 minutes, and 16 seconds, achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023.”

Following his announcement and display of the fake certificate, Chef Smith was arrested for alleged fraud. According to Ghana Media, Smith was accused of defrauding one of the sponsors, Amadia Shopping Mall, in relation to his cooking marathon.
