Kayode Olaiya, better known as Aderupoko in the entertainment world, has embraced his stage name despite initial reservations, considering it a blessing in disguise after over thirty years. In a recent interview conducted in Yoruba, Aderupoko shared the origins of his stage name and his path into acting.
He recounted starting his career at Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) and Western Nigeria Broadcasting Corporation (WNBC) in Ibadan, where he initially worked as a storyteller. Aderupoko recalled how he and his friends used to gather at the site now occupied by the Oyo State Government House, plucking mangoes and cutting down trees as students.
His journey into acting began unexpectedly when he was approached to gather friends for storytelling sessions, which eventually led him into the world of stage performances. Reflecting on those early days, Aderupoko humorously recalled the enticements they received, such as soft drinks during festive seasons like Christmas and Ileya.
Throughout the interview, Aderupoko expressed gratitude for his career and the recognition his stage name has brought him, illustrating his journey from student mango-picker to renowned actor.
