"What Happens to Degrees Conferred on Nigerian Celebs?" Yemi Solade Reacts to Invalidation of Certificates from Benin Republic, Togo

Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has raised questions about the legitimacy of degrees awarded to Nigerian celebrities by universities in Benin Republic and Togo. This comes after the recent revelation that 22,789 degrees from these countries have been declared invalid.

The controversy began when Nigeria's Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, announced that between 2019 and 2023, thousands of Nigerians obtained fake degree certificates from institutions in Benin Republic and Togo. According to the minister, these certificates were issued by schools not recognized to offer degree programs in those countries, and many of the recipients were caught competing with genuine graduates in the job market.

Responding to the news on Instagram, Solade questioned the validity of the numerous honorary doctorate degrees conferred on Nigerian celebrities by these institutions. He expressed his concerns with the post: "What Happens To ALL The ABSURD Doctorate Degrees Splashed On Nigerian Celebs Since FG Has Pronounced That Degrees Acquired From Benin Republic Since 2017 Are INVALID?"

His reaction highlights the growing skepticism about the credibility of degrees obtained from certain foreign universities.
