Self-acclaimed relationship expert, Blessing CEO, has openly criticized the rising number of Nigerian celebrities and influencers who are embracing the trend of extreme weight loss. In a TikTok video, Blessing questioned what she called a “slimming pandemic,” observing that many women are no longer focused on BBL surgeries, tattoos, or tiny waists, but are now obsessed with becoming very slim. She warned that the new trend is going too far, with some looking sick rather than healthy.
“It’s no longer BBL and tattoos or thin waist, it’s now slimming down. You’re not just growing thin, you look sick,” she said.
Over the past few years, a number of Nigerian celebrities have surprised fans with dramatic weight loss transformations, sparking mixed reactions online.
In April 2025, popular actress Mercy Johnson Okojie sparked concern after sharing a video on Instagram where she looked much slimmer while promoting her slim tea brand. Fans quickly flooded the comment section, expressing worries about her health and questioning her new appearance.
Earlier in February 2025, BBNaija star Tacha also made headlines after showing off a much trimmer figure online. Her drastic transformation led some social media users to speculate that she might be using medication. Responding to her critics, Tacha clapped back, asking why people found it so hard to praise her success.
Back in 2024, Chioma Adeleke, wife of music superstar Davido, became a trending topic due to her noticeably slimmer appearance. People began to worry when she was spotted taking a walk in her neighborhood looking unusually thin. Many first noticed her weight loss during her twins’ birthday celebration.
In 2022, actress Eniola Badmus publicly revealed that she had undergone gastric bypass surgery in Turkey. During an interview with City People Magazine, she admitted that the decision was not easy and the process was tougher than people assumed. She said, “My eyes saw a lot.”
In 2023, comedian Real Warri Pikin also stunned many fans with her impressive body transformation. She opened up about her weight loss journey, revealing that it wasn’t an easy process. In her confession, she admitted that her husband played a major role by pressuring her into making the change.
As more celebrities continue to join the slim body trend, Blessing CEO's comments have added to the ongoing debate about body image, beauty standards, and health risks in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
