Raheem Okoya, the son of Nigerian billionaire businessman and Eleganza Group founder, Chief Rasaq Okoya, has caused a stir on social media after declaring that every penny he owns is the result of his personal effort and not his father’s riches.
In a viral video from his interview on Wazobia Max Television, which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), Raheem confidently stated that his financial success is built on his own hard work and determination. According to him, “Every penny in my account today is based on what I do — it’s my hard work and my sweat.”
He explained further that while he has made his own money through dedication and hard work, he is still striving to achieve more in life. However, he added that he feels comfortable with the level he has reached so far.
His statement quickly spread across social media, drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians. Many users questioned the credibility of his “self-made” claim, while others praised his mindset.
A user named Big Tee commented, “Easy to say when you’re born into comfort. Even if you don’t touch your father’s wealth, the network, exposure, and safety net are already privileges. Being ‘self-made’ hits different when there’s no backup plan.”
Another user, Favochino, wrote, “I have no issues with what he said, I just want to know what he actually does to make his money.”
Ahmed Bakare added, “Because the beginning was very easy for him. If you start from the street, you won’t look that fresh.”
On the supportive side, Abubakar Sanni praised Raheem’s father, saying, “I love billionaire fathers who teach their children to work for their own money. It helps them become financially independent even when their parents are gone.”
Another commenter, Tavershima, offered a more balanced opinion, stating, “Even if the money is from your hard work, your father’s influence and connections are still the foundation of your success.”
The viral clip has since kept Nigerians divided, with some applauding Raheem’s ambition and others insisting that his privileged background gave him a major advantage.
