Late Baba Suwe’s Best Friend, Baba Opebe, Reportedly Battles Prolonged Illness

Veteran Nollywood actor Baba Opebe, known as the close friend of the late comic actor Baba Suwe, is reportedly battling a serious illness that has lasted for more than a year.

The development was made public by fellow actor Kunle Afod, who recently visited Baba Opebe and expressed concern over the veteran actor’s condition. Afod described what he saw during the visit as “terrible,” raising concerns among fans and colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

According to Afod, Baba Opebe disclosed that he has been suffering from the illness for over a year. He reportedly told the actor that doctors had diagnosed him with a shortage of blood, a condition that has required medical attention.

Baba Opebe said he has already received four pints of blood and undergone several medical tests. Despite these efforts, however, he reportedly has not experienced significant improvement in his condition.

During the visit, Kunle Afod reportedly offered Baba Opebe ₦100,000 in cash to support him, while also using the opportunity to call on Nigerians, fans and well-meaning individuals to come to the veteran actor’s aid.

In his appeal, Afod urged people to remember the contributions of veterans like Baba Opebe, who played important roles in the development of Nollywood and entertained generations of Nigerians through their work.

He also appealed to members of the public to offer prayers for the ailing actor and requested recommendations for reputable hospitals or trusted traditional medical practitioners who might be able to assist with his treatment.

Baba Opebe’s reported health struggle has renewed conversations about the difficulties faced by some veteran Nollywood actors, particularly those who contributed to the industry during its formative years but now require financial and medical support.

Afod’s appeal has therefore become a call for collective support, prayers and assistance for the veteran actor as he continues his battle for improved health.
