Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen will lead Nigeria as captain in their Africa Cup of Nations semi-final match against host nation Morocco.
This decision comes after the team’s regular captain, Wilfred Ndidi, was suspended due to the accumulation of yellow cards. Ndidi received his first caution during Nigeria’s Round of 16 match against Mozambique and picked up another booking in the quarter-final game against Tunisia, ruling him out of the crucial tie.
Osimhen, who is regarded as one of the key figures in the Super Eagles squad, is not new to the leadership role. He previously captained the team in their final group-stage match against Uganda and handled the responsibility confidently.
It is also worth noting that Osimhen was officially named the vice-captain of the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. With Ndidi unavailable, the Napoli forward will now step up to lead the team as they battle Morocco for a place in the final.
