“Where Is Tinubu?” – Peter Obi Questions the President’s Absence Amid Nigeria’s Growing Crisis

Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns over the whereabouts and visibility of President Bola Tinubu, describing it as a matter of national accountability.

In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, Obi said his question was a “critical demand for accountability in a national emergency.” He pointed to Nigeria’s worsening economic and social conditions as reasons the President should be more visible and engaged.

According to Obi, Nigeria is approaching a troubling milestone, with about 140 million citizens living in extreme poverty, the highest number globally. He added that the country is battling severe hunger, rising insecurity, and massive youth unemployment, all of which continue to affect everyday life.

The former Anambra State governor also described Nigeria as “one of the worst places to be born,” citing high infant mortality rates. He questioned why, in the middle of these challenges, Nigerians rarely hear directly from their President.

“In the midst of this chaos, where has our President been?” Obi asked.

He further alleged that President Tinubu spent about 196 days outside Nigeria in 2025, claiming this was more time than the President spent within the country during the same period. Obi also stated that Nigerians have not heard directly from the President since December 2025, which he said deepens public concern.

Obi’s comments have sparked conversations online, with many Nigerians debating leadership visibility, accountability, and the urgency of addressing the nation’s growing problems.
