Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has made it clear that his main goal is to help Nigeria win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), currently taking place in Morocco.
The Atalanta forward has been one of Nigeria’s standout players at the tournament and is expected to play a crucial role when the Super Eagles face host nation Morocco, also known as the Atlas Lions, in Wednesday’s semi-final match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Earlier in the competition, Algeria tried to stop Lookman by placing him under strict man-marking. Despite this tactic, Nigeria still found a way to score, with goals coming from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams. This showed the depth and flexibility of the Super Eagles’ attack.
Lookman, who has scored three goals so far in the tournament, said he is not thinking about past achievements. Instead, he remains fully focused on the task ahead and on helping Nigeria lift the AFCON trophy.
“I’m always focused on the present. Right now, the present is being in Morocco for AFCON and trying to help my country win the tournament,” Lookman told Footy Africa. “All the experiences are in the past.”
Nigeria have been the most dangerous attacking team in the competition so far. The Super Eagles have scored 14 goals in five matches, conceded only four goals, and kept two clean sheets. Their strong attack has been led by Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi, with added support from Akor Adams.
In midfield and defence, the team has shown balance and leadership through players such as Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, whose performances have added stability to the squad.
Head coach Eric Chelle and his team will be looking to continue their impressive form as they push for a place in the AFCON 2025 final and move one step closer to winning the continental title.
