Super Eagles Captain Wilfred Ndidi Mourns Father After Fatal Road Accident

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi is mourning the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who died in a road accident on Tuesday in Umunede, Delta State. His father was a retired military officer.

Ndidi shared his pain in an emotional post on his Instagram story, describing their last phone conversation as a goodbye he did not fully understand at the time. According to him, his father called earlier that morning sounding happy and excited, but he later realised it was a final farewell. Ndidi expressed his heartbreak, wondering if all they now have are memories and unfinished conversations.

The football star also reflected on special moments he shared with his father. He recalled dedicating his first-ever goal for the Nigerian national team to him. Ndidi said he performed the famous “Papilo” dance in celebration because his father admired former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo. He expressed deep sorrow over how suddenly his father passed away.

Meanwhile, Ndidi’s club, Besiktas, confirmed the sad news in an official statement shared on their X (formerly Twitter) page. The Turkish club expressed deep sadness over the tragic loss and sent condolences to Ndidi and his family.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of our footballer Wilfred Ndidi’s esteemed father, Sunday Ndidi, in a fatal traffic accident,” the club said. They also prayed for mercy for the deceased and strength for Ndidi and his loved ones during this difficult time.

The news has drawn sympathy from fans and football lovers, who have continued to send messages of support to the Super Eagles midfielder and his family.
