Nigerian social media influencer King Mitchy has reacted to criticism following the release of an alleged WhatsApp conversation between her and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.
The controversy began amid her ongoing online dispute with social media activist VeryDarkMan. The clash started after Mitchy questioned his school renovation projects, claiming she also renovated a school within six days. She challenged him to give her ₦50 million to renovate four schools.
As the argument intensified, Mitchy alleged that VeryDarkMan questioned the source of her business funds and accused her of inappropriate behaviour. She also claimed that she lost her business page because of the online drama.
In an attempt to defend herself, Mitchy shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp chat allegedly showing the Ooni praising her for her social media efforts. The monarch reportedly encouraged her to keep up the good work and asked when they could speak.
Reacting further on her Instagram story, Mitchy said the king personally reached out to her and advised critics to leave her alone. She stated that she did not previously know the monarch or understand his importance.
“The king has said you people should leave me alone. I honestly didn’t know him before. Thank you for being so kind and generous, sir,” she wrote.
She added that the monarch described her as a young girl and showed her kindness, expressing surprise at how important he is.
The situation has continued to generate mixed reactions online, with social media users debating the role of traditional rulers and influencers in public controversies.
