“It Hurts That You Aren’t Here to Receive Your Flowers” — Rotimi Salami Remembers Late Allwell Ademola on Mother’s Day

While many people celebrated their mothers during Mother’s Day, Nollywood actor Rotimi Salami used the special day to honour his late friend and colleague, Allwell Ademola.

In a heartbreaking post shared on social media, the actor reflected on the painful reality that Ademola is no longer alive to witness the release of the movie Kilanko, which she directed. According to him, the film is now showing in cinemas across the country on Mother’s Day, exactly as she had wished before her passing.

Rotimi described Kilanko as a powerful and thought-provoking film created to celebrate mothers. He said the project carries a strong message about motherhood and life, adding that it remains one of the late filmmaker’s last and biggest works.

Sharing his emotions, the actor expressed sadness that Ademola was not present to receive recognition and appreciation for directing such an impactful movie. Despite the pain, he encouraged the public to watch the film in cinemas in honour of her legacy.

In his tribute, Rotimi wrote:

“HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, SHUGA BOO. SHUGA BOO, I DID IT… KILANKO IS CURRENTLY SHOWING IN ALL CINEMAS ON ‘MOTHER’S DAY’ AS YOU WISHED. IT ONLY HURTS THE MOST TODAY REFLECTING YOU ARE NOT HERE TO RECEIVE YOUR FLOWERS FOR DIRECTING SUCH AN IMPACTFUL AND BALANCED THOUGHT-PROVOKING FILM TO CELEBRATE MOTHERS. TRULY, IN LIFE… KI LAN KO GANGAN WHAT ARE WE CELEBRATING? LIFE OR DEATH? I REALLY WANT EVERYONE TO SEE THIS FILM ONE OF YOUR LAST BIGGEST. KILANKO SHOWING IN ALL CINEMAS NEAR YOU.”

His touching message has since drawn emotional reactions from fans and colleagues on social media, with many praising the late filmmaker’s contribution to Nollywood and promising to watch the movie in support of her work.
