The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed a viral screenshot circulating on social media that claimed to show former US President Donald Trump criticising President Bola Tinubu over recent bombings in Maiduguri.
The screenshot alleged that Trump had criticised Tinubu’s handling of security in the country, particularly highlighting his state visit to the United Kingdom amid the deadly attacks.
Reacting to the viral post, Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, took to X on Tuesday to label the post as “Fake!!!”. He also shared an image of the doctored screenshot to visually refute the claim.
The Presidency emphasized that the circulating post was fabricated and warned the public against spreading misinformation about the President and national security matters.
This comes as social media users continue to share unverified content, highlighting the growing concern over the rapid spread of fake news online.
