Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo has spoken in support of her colleague Aremu Afolayan following the backlash over his recent comments about President Bola Tinubu.
Aremu Afolayan had earlier come under heavy criticism after a viral video showed him praising Tinubu for helping his business during a period when the United Arab Emirates imposed visa restrictions on Nigerians. His remarks were seen by many as insensitive to the current hardships facing citizens.
“To all Nigerians, please forgive me. I’m very sorry. The cvr$3s you guys are raining on me is too much. I didn’t take money from anyone. It’s obvious that there’s insecurity and the government isn’t doing anything; what I was trying to say is don’t answer anyone who is saying… https://t.co/BaOnaUvPiR pic.twitter.com/ExhVG56XSD

Amid the criticism, the actor later issued an apology on Instagram, stating that his words were misunderstood. He acknowledged the seriousness of the situation in Nigeria, especially rising insecurity, and expressed regret for how his comments were received.
Reacting to the apology, Biodun Okeowo said she believes Aremu is genuinely sorry and has taken responsibility for his actions. She noted that although she initially found his apology video amusing due to his usual playful nature, she later saw a man who was truly remorseful and sober.
Okeowo added that Aremu had no intention of hurting Nigerians but understands that his words came across the wrong way. She appealed to the public to forgive him and stop the backlash, stressing that he has reflected deeply on the situation.
Her statement has sparked mixed reactions online, with some agreeing that the actor deserves forgiveness, while others insist he should be held accountable for his remarks.
