FG Files 13-Count Charge Against Six Over Alleged Terrorism and Treason Plot

The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed a 13-count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against six individuals over an alleged plot to wage war against the country and commit acts of terrorism.

Among those charged are retired Major General Mohammed Gana, retired Naval Captain Erasmus Victor, and serving police inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, alongside Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.

The defendants are expected to be arraigned on Wednesday, April 22, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court.

Also named in the charge, but currently at large, is former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.

The charges were filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and signed by Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo.

According to the government, the suspects are accused of serious offences including treason, terrorism, failure to disclose security intelligence, and money laundering linked to terrorism financing.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired in 2025 to wage war against the Nigerian state with the aim of overpowering the President, an offence punishable under the Criminal Code.

They were also accused of having prior knowledge of a planned treasonable act involving Colonel Mohammed Alhassan Ma’aji and others but failing to report it to the authorities.

The case has raised serious concerns about national security, as the government moves forward with legal action against the accused individuals.
