Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised President Bola Tinubu over what he described as failure to fulfil promises on security.
In a statement released on April 6, Obi recalled that the President had visited Jos on April 2, where he assured residents that the recent deadly attacks in Plateau State would not happen again.
However, Obi noted that less than a week later, another attack occurred in Nyamgo Gyel, Jos South Local Government Area, leading to the loss of more lives.
He further highlighted incidents in other parts of the country, including killings, kidnappings, and destruction of property in states such as Nasarawa, Zamfara, Borno, Benue, and Kaduna.
According to Obi, the continued attacks show a failure of leadership, stressing that the perpetrators are not invisible and that government inaction has encouraged them.
In his words, he said:
“This experience will not repeat itself… yet within hours, Nigerians are still being killed across the country. This represents a failure of leadership and responsibility.”
Obi described the situation as a national emergency, warning that insecurity is worsening and that Nigerians are paying the price with their lives.
He called for urgent and decisive action, insisting that the government must prioritise the protection of lives and property across the country.
