Supreme Court to Hear ADC, PDP Leadership Disputes

The Supreme Court of Nigeria is set to hear separate appeals on Tuesday involving leadership disputes in the African Democratic Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

A key appeal involves former Senate President David Mark, who is challenging a Court of Appeal judgment affecting the leadership of the ADC. He is seeking an order to stop the execution of the ruling until the Supreme Court decides on the matter.

At the same time, a faction of the PDP backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, led by Tanimu Turaki, is also challenging a separate Court of Appeal decision. The ruling had nullified the faction’s national convention and leadership structure.

The PDP faction argued that allowing the judgment to stand could destabilise the party, which is why it approached the Supreme Court for a final decision.

The hearing for David Mark’s case, involving Nafiu-Bala Gombe and others, is scheduled for April 14 in Abuja. The case is expected to run alongside other related matters, including one earlier fixed before the Federal High Court.

The upcoming proceedings are seen as crucial in resolving ongoing leadership crises within both political parties.
