Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have successfully rescued eight people who were kidnapped during a security operation in Pandam Forest, located in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation began at about 3:00 a.m. on June 24, 2026, when security personnel launched a raid on suspected bandits' camps hidden inside the forest. As the troops advanced, the bandits opened gunfire in an attempt to create confusion and escape from the area.
During the exchange, some of the kidnapped victims seized the opportunity to run away from their captors. Security operatives rescued three victims during the first stage of the operation.
The troops continued searching the forest throughout the day, and later, five more victims came out from the bush after escaping from the bandits. They were safely rescued, bringing the total number of rescued victims to eight.
According to security sources, the successful rescue has been warmly welcomed by residents of nearby communities, who praised the troops for their bravery and commitment to protecting lives.
Authorities also confirmed that no security personnel were killed or injured during the operation. Meanwhile, efforts are still ongoing to locate the fleeing bandits, destroy their hideouts, and improve security in the area to prevent future attacks.
