APC Sets August 22 for Primaries Ahead of 2026 Legislative Bye-Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced Saturday, August 22, 2026, as the date for its primary elections to select candidates for several legislative contests across Nigeria.

The party’s timetable covers primaries for four restored State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, as well as seats that will be contested in the upcoming 2026 legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.

The timetable was released on Wednesday by the APC’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu. The party said the schedule followed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to restore four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies.

Constituencies Affected

In Delta State, the restored constituencies are:

Abraka State Constituency

Isoko North II State Constituency

Ughelli South II State Constituency

In Kogi State, the affected constituency is:

Yagba West II State Constituency

The APC also listed constituencies where legislative bye-elections are expected to take place.

These include Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi, Udu State Constituency in Delta, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.

Sale and Submission of Forms

According to the party’s timetable, the sale of nomination forms began on Tuesday, August 18, and will continue until Thursday, August 20, 2026.

The APC also fixed August 20 as the deadline for aspirants to submit their completed nomination forms and accompanying documents.

The party is expected to proceed with its primaries on August 22, where members will choose the candidates who will represent the APC in the affected legislative contests.

The development marks the beginning of the party’s preparations for the 2026 legislative bye-elections and contests in the newly restored constituencies.
