Osun State Election: There’s a Plot to Arrest Aregbesola – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns over an alleged plan to arrest its National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

The allegation was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who said the ADC had received what it described as “credible reports” of moves to arrest the former Osun State governor in the days leading up to the election.

According to Abdullahi, the party is concerned that Aregbesola’s alleged arrest could be aimed at disrupting the ADC’s campaign and election-day activities. He noted that Aregbesola plays an important role in coordinating the party’s operations ahead of the poll.

The ADC said the allegation was particularly concerning given what it described as a pattern of intimidation, harassment and alleged misuse of state institutions against opposition figures.

Abdullahi said the party could not simply dismiss the reports, stressing that any attempt to remove Aregbesola from the political process could affect the party’s preparations for the election.

Aregbesola served as Osun State governor from 2010 to 2018 before becoming Minister of the Interior. He currently serves as the National Secretary of the opposition ADC.

The allegation comes as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election, with parties and their candidates preparing for the final stages of the contest.
