Peter Obi Launches 2027 Campaign, Says Nigerians Deserve Leaders Who Will Listen to Them

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said Nigerians deserve leaders who will engage directly with them, listen to their concerns and provide clear solutions to the challenges facing the country.

Obi made the remarks at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State, as he officially commenced his campaign for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking about his plans for the country, the former Anambra State governor said he and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, would prioritise tackling insecurity, reducing poverty and hunger, improving education and healthcare, and addressing the growing number of children who are out of school.

He also pledged to pursue economic policies focused on inclusive growth, with particular attention to improving the living conditions of vulnerable Nigerians.

Obi said the commencement of the campaign period should provide an opportunity for all presidential candidates to openly present their credentials, explain their policies and allow Nigerians to assess their records and plans for the country.

He challenged candidates seeking the presidency to engage directly with voters rather than relying on representatives and political surrogates.

“Every candidate seeking the presidency must have the courage to come before the people, answer their questions, defend their records, and subject their vision to public scrutiny.”

Obi also criticised candidates who, according to him, may attempt to remain distant from the electorate while expecting Nigerians to entrust them with the leadership of the country.

The NDC candidate’s comments come as political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general election, with major contenders beginning to present their programmes and appeal directly to voters.
