Reno Omokri Urges President Tinubu To Ban Sports Betting In Nigeria

Renowned sociopolitical activist Reno Omokri has called upon President Bola Tinubu to urgently implement a ban on all forms of sports betting in Nigeria. The appeal, made through social media, emphasizes the potential economic benefits and the need to address the negative impact of widespread gambling on Nigerian youths.

Omokri suggests that President Tinubu could issue an Executive Order empowering the Nigerian Communications Commission to ban sports betting apps from GSM Internet Service Providers' App Stores. Additionally, he proposes the revocation of licenses for physical sports betting operators in the country. According to Omokri, such measures would contribute to economic growth and counter the detrimental effects of excessive gambling, which he claims is a significant issue in Nigeria.

Highlighting the scale of the problem, Omokri points out that $1 billion is spent on gambling daily in Nigeria, with an average Nigerian reportedly spending $15 daily on various forms of gambling. He argues that curbing the prevalence of gambling is crucial for the nation's economic stability and addresses concerns about the impact on national security due to the associated rise in petty crimes linked to youths seeking funds for their gambling habits.
