The Times Higher Education has unveiled its 2023 World University rankings, spanning across 104 countries and regions. Ten African universities have secured positions in the top rankings.
Leading the African contingent is the University of Cape Town, followed by Stellenbosch University and the University of Witwatersrand. Notably, the University of Ibadan and the University of Lagos have made it to the top 10, securing the seventh and ninth positions respectively.
Globally, the University of Oxford maintains its top position for the eighth consecutive year, with Harvard University advancing to second place and the University of Cambridge dropping to third.
This year's rankings, which include 1,799 universities, are the largest and most diverse to date. The evaluation process involved analyzing over 121 million citations from more than 15.5 million research publications, along with survey responses from 40,000 scholars worldwide.
