Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, has publicly denounced the nationwide protests planned for August 1 to 10, citing concerns about the hardship in Nigeria. In a statement on July 29, Igboho criticized the protests as an attempt to destabilize the country.
Igboho praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's policies since taking office on May 29, 2023, and condemned efforts to undermine his administration. He emphasized the importance of peaceful protests but rejected calls for unconstitutional regime change.
Igboho highlighted that during President Buhari’s tenure, protests from the Southwest were focused on community protection, not political upheaval. He declared that the Yoruba Nation Movement would not support protests aimed at using the Southwest for political instability.
Recognizing global economic hardships, Igboho noted the government's efforts to alleviate challenges in Nigeria, such as reducing food prices and increasing the minimum wage. He urged the Yoruba people to reject politically motivated protests and emphasized the need for change through democratic processes.
Igboho warned against violence during the protests, urging individuals and groups to stay off the streets. He called for a unified stance to ensure stability and progress in Nigeria.
