Writer Solomon Buchi has criticized gospel artists who incorporate trendy and secular musical phrases into their performances. His remarks came in response to a video of gospel artist Yinka Alaseyori, known for her song "Oni Iduro," using the popular "Gwo Gwo Gwo" melody during her performance at a Lagos-based church last Friday.
Buchi expressed his disappointment on social media, stating, "It’s sad to see ‘gospel ministers’ incorporate trendy and secular musical phrases into their ministrations. This isn’t gospel music, neither is it a ministration. It’s just emotionalism; employing every possible means to gyrate listeners. I’m sick of it!"
He further criticized the practice of incorporating the "12345678" trend into praise and worship, emphasizing the need for reverence in offering praise to God. Buchi called for a reevaluation of some gospel musicians, labeling them as entertainers rather than true ministers of faith.
Buchi's comments have sparked discussions on the balance between contemporary influences and traditional worship in gospel music.
