Nollywood actress Abiola Adebayo, popularly known as Biola Bayo, has opened up about how dropping out of secondary school shaped her life. In an interview with Seun Oloketuyi for Nollywood On Radio, Biola revealed that her experience as a dropout drastically changed her perspective on life. Despite her passion for education, she faced numerous challenges due to financial difficulties, which forced her to turn down several school admissions.
"Education has always been important to me," Biola shared. "I was a secondary school dropout, so it was intentional for me to go back. It wasn’t easy—I denied several admissions because I didn’t have money, but I never stopped trying. I always feel like there’s more to achieve."
Biola reflected on her life lessons, emphasizing her drive for self-improvement. She stated that she never settles for mediocrity and constantly pushes herself to do better, no matter her current position.
"I don’t stop at any level of mediocrity," she said. "I always feel like I can do better. I don’t like to stay too comfortable in one place, so I keep striving for more."
Addressing the common misconception that the Yoruba film industry is full of uneducated actors, Biola clarified that many actors in the industry are well-educated. She acknowledged that in the past, there were more actors with just school certificates, but they were still polished and fluent in English.
"There have always been educated people among us," she explained. "It just seemed like there were more uneducated actors back then, but even those with school certificates spoke better English than what we often see now."
