The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has officially announced that it will begin lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Dangote Refinery starting September 15, 2024. This announcement came through a statement signed by NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye, and was further elaborated on by Adedapo Segun, the Executive Vice President of NNPC’s Downstream sector, during an interview on TVC News' program “Journalists' Hangout.”
Segun stated that the NNPC is coordinating with fuel marketers to extend operational hours at fuel stations to tackle the ongoing fuel scarcity. He noted, “We are ensuring that stations open early and close late to meet the fuel demands of Nigerians.”
He added that NNPC is working with relevant authorities to prevent fuel diversion and ensure timely deliveries across the country. The NNPC is confident that with these collaborative efforts, fuel scarcity should ease in the coming days as more stations recalibrate and resume full operations.
This update followed denials from Dangote Refinery earlier in the week, stating that NNPC had not yet begun lifting petrol from the Lagos-based refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. Despite these clarifications, both parties have indicated that full-scale operations are on track for mid-September, and Segun assured that Nigerians would soon experience relief from the lingering fuel crisis.
