Nigerian singer Seun Kuti stirred controversy with a bold message directed at Nigerian women regarding sex. In a since-deleted Instagram story, Kuti stated that no one "gives" anyone sex, except for prostitutes. He emphasized that intimacy is a mutual act and not a favor, stressing that unless someone is a prostitute— which he added isn't a bad thing— sex shouldn't be seen as one person doing the other a favor.
He wrote, "No one gives anyone sêx except a prost!tute. Sêx is a mutual act. It’s not a favor, and you didn’t do anything; I just had sêx – a natural act that cave women and cavemen did. Nigerian women, s3x isn’t a favor unless you are a prost!tute, and that also isn’t a bad thing."
The post sparked mixed reactions, with many agreeing with his perspective. Some users supported his view, like one Peaceful Baddie who commented, "He said nothing but the truth. These days, my gender acts like we’re doing men a favor by opening our legs, as if we don’t enjoy sêx too."
However, not everyone was on board. Cytantomy responded, "Statement from the pit of hell. Sêx is only for married people, anything else is a favor." Others offered humorous takes, like Undies Island1 who joked, "Me, I don’t even know if I am a cave woman or prost!tute."
Kuti’s remarks have ignited conversations around the perception of intimacy and gender dynamics in modern relationships.
