Nigerian rapper, Reminisce, has opened up about his experience in the music industry, focusing on the necessity of setting boundaries as a successful artist. In a recent interview with Naija FM, the rapper reflected on how fame can be intoxicating, likening it to a drug that clouds one’s judgment. He explained that the allure of success attracts people, but not all have genuine intentions.
He stated, "Fame is a drug that gets one high and clouds judgment. One of the things I did early on was realize that nobody is my friend." This realization, he said, has led some in the industry to dislike him, as he always stands firm in his decisions. Reminisce emphasized that he has learned from experience that, in the end, he alone would bear the consequences of his choices.
In his personal journey, which began even before he became famous and had a child, Reminisce noted that the biggest mistake in the industry is believing that everyone around you is a friend. "Nobody is your friend," he reiterated, stressing that everyone is striving for the same thing in the industry. He urged fellow artists to understand that while fame may bring people closer, not all want them to succeed.
In his view, it’s the artist’s responsibility to determine who genuinely supports them and who doesn’t. Reminisce’s message highlights the importance of discernment and self-reliance when navigating the complexities of fame and success.
