Renowned Fuji artist King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, is facing public criticism over comments he made during his late mother’s Fidau prayer, held on Friday, January 24th.
K1’s mother, Alhaja Halimah Anifowoshe, passed away at the remarkable age of 105. While preparing for the 8-day Fidau prayer, a video clip surfaced showing K1 referring to some Islamic clerics (Alfas) with the term “Ganusi,” which many interpreted as labeling them food mongers. The comment implied that certain Alfas attended events primarily for the food served.
In his words, “Alfas will not go to my father’s house for the party. It’s my house they will ‘Ganusi.’ Then we prayed in my house before going back to my father’s house for the main party.”
The controversial remark stirred widespread debate online, with many condemning the Fuji legend’s choice of words, especially during such a significant Islamic ritual.
During the prayer, renowned cleric Sheikh Faruq Onikijipa delivered a sermon addressing the issue, offering corrections and requesting that K1 apologize to the Alfas for his statement. Despite this, K1 reportedly refused to tender an apology, instructing Sheikh Onikijipa to proceed with the event.
The Fidau prayer, which is an important Islamic ceremony in honor of the deceased, was attended by prominent celebrities and respected clerics, further amplifying the attention on K1’s remarks.
Public reactions remain divided, with some demanding an apology from the Fuji icon, while others defend his right to his opinion. The controversy has added a layer of complexity to what was meant to be a solemn occasion honoring his late mother.
