Yoruba actress Fisayo Abebi has opened up about how her unexpected journey into filmmaking began and how she has navigated the challenges of being a young actor.
In an interview shared on Biola Adebayo Entertainment's official YouTube channel, Fisayo revealed that acting was never in her plans. Her career began by chance during a visit to her mother's movie set. An actor asked her to play the role of a sick person, and her impressive performance caught the attention of the crew.
Recalling the moment, Fisayo said, "I was holding my mother’s phone, which kept ringing while she was on set with her colleagues. The actor asked me to pretend to be a sick person, and he was so impressed with how I handled the scene that he told my mother he wanted me to join his filmmaking crew. That was how my career started."
She further shared that her acting talent was first noticed in a church drama group where she played Mary, Mother of Jesus, during a nativity scene. Although she initially saw acting as fun, others praised her natural talent.
At eight years old, another pivotal moment occurred when filmmaker Tunde Ola-Yusuf and his crew visited her neighborhood. Fisayo’s spontaneous reactions caught their attention, leading to offers for small roles. Recognizing her potential, her boss encouraged her to pursue acting formally.
In 2019, Fisayo attended training at Ibadan Acting Studio, earning a certificate that solidified her place in the film industry. Since then, she has been steadily cast in various roles, building her career with dedication and passion.
Her journey serves as an inspiring story of how unexpected opportunities and natural talent can pave the way for success in Nollywood.
