Veteran Yoruba Nollywood actress Yetunde Ogunsola has shared an emotional story about a painful decision she once made for the sake of her career.
In a recent interview on Kunle Afod’s YouTube channel, Ogunsola revealed how she left her critically ill father in the hospital to embark on a film tour with her late husband, Chief Timothy Ishola Ogunsola, popularly known as “I Sho Pepper.”
She recounted that her father had fallen seriously ill, prompting her uncle, a vice-chancellor at the time, to take him to the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan for treatment. However, just a day after his admission, she was called for a crucial movie tour. As a key member of the technical team responsible for showcasing the film, her presence was vital.
Faced with a difficult choice between staying by her father’s side and fulfilling her professional duty, she ultimately chose to go on the tour. She entrusted her father’s care to the hospital staff and traveled with her husband, dedicating herself to her responsibilities.
Tragically, while on the tour, she received devastating news. She recalled:
"There was a time my father was very sick. He was so ill that his brother, who was a vice-chancellor at the time, took him to UCH in Ibadan. A day after his admission, I Sho Pepper called us for a movie tour. I was one of the most important people needed because I was the one supposed to handle the machine to display the movie. There was nothing I could do, so I left my sick father at the hospital and went on the movie tour with my husband. After a week on the tour, I was about to go to the river to wash my baby’s clothes when I was called and informed that my father had passed away."
Her revelation has sparked discussions about the sacrifices actors often make for their careers, with many sympathizing with the difficult position she found herself in.
